To Shafik Sachedina, The Important Things In Life Are Helping Others And Respecting Ones Traditions

Shafik Sachedina is a certified dental surgeon who serves as Joint Chairman of his own company, Sussex Health Care. The company is a group of care homes primarily based in Sussex, England. Sussex provides patient care and support services to individuals suffering from conditions ranging from traumatic brain injury to Alzheimer’s and Dementia related conditions. A strong emphasis is placed on the care of the elderly. The company has notably won several awards for excellence under Shafik Sachedina’s leadership.

Shafik is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Ismaili Studies and the Head of the Department of Jamati Institutions. Among his duties at the Department of Jamati Institutions is to coordinate programs for the 16 principle areas of the Ismaili Institutions. He proudly serves in this role on a voluntary basis – a long-standing tradition in the Ismaili community centered around voluntary service. He formerly served in the capacity of Chairman of FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance International as well as Chairman of the Ismaili Leaders International Forum.

Born in 1950 in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, Shafik Sachedina would go on to study at the prestigious Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School at the University of London. Upon completion of his qualification, Shafik spent many years practicing dentistry as a dental surgeon before moving into the entrepreneurial sector of the healthcare field.

Shafik Sachedina has been passionate throughout his life about celebrating his Ismaili heritage. The Ismaili community is a lineage of Shia Islam. He has been a steady and constant presence within the Institute of Ismaili Studies. The institute is a London based organization that focusses on research and promotes the study of historical and current Muslim cultures around the world. The institute strives to gain a better understanding of the complex relationships between Muslim cultures and the cultures they have come into contact with.
