Mali’s Prime Minister Resigns

The Malian Prime Minister Moussa Mara has resigned on Thursday. The President of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has appointed Modibo Keita as a Prime Minister on Thursday replacing Moussa Mara who was forced to resign according to some media reports.

“The president wanted to give new life to his five years, and he felt he had another man,” said a close associate of the head of state, on condition of anonymity. “Prime minister was not willing to leave the office, but, he was compelled to do so, in the end, he decided to resign” he added.

Moussa Mara was appointed to revive national reconciliation but he was not very much successful, replacing Oumar Tatam Ly, who was Prime Minister for a little over seven months. Modibo Keita was appointed in April 2014 “High Representative” to the president for peace talks launched in July in Algiers between the government and armed groups in the north.

This new change of government comes as talks with rebel groups are expected to reach an agreement in January, and the jihadist attacks are increasing with the passage of time.
