Publishing giant Penguin Classics has teamed up with the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS)for a global warming anthology.
The project, entitled Thoreau’s Legacy: American Stories about Global Warming has put out a call for submissions from both writers and photographers in the US for this online book. They’re seeking personal stories and images to be shared. Publication is scheduled for 2009 with the submission deadline set at November 15 2008. But that’s not all!
“Writers and photographers whose submissions are selected for publication will receive a limited edition printed copy of the book and will be invited to participate in book promotion activities.” For the publicity side alone and the association with Penguin, this is surely worth a shot.
You can read the guidelines in full at the site and also see sample essays and photos. This is an excerpt:
…write a 200-500 word personal account related to global warming: a place you love and want to protect; animals, plants, people, activities you fear are at risk from a changing climate and why they matter to you; or the steps you are taking in your own life to stem the tide of global warming. In short, tell us why the issue resonates with you on an emotional or intellectual level.
Note you can submit your work there too. Good luck! Here’s the link at the UCS site with all the details:
